Fr. Abel Periyappuram (1920–2001)

(Founder-COCHIN KALABHAVAN)

Fr. Abel Periyappuram was a visionary priest and the founder of Cochin Kalabhavan, a pioneering cultural institution in Kerala. He dedicated his life to nurturing young talent and promoting performing arts such as mimicry, music, and drama. Through Cochin Kalabhavan, he provided a platform for countless artists who later became prominent figures in film, television, and stage. His efforts played a key role in popularizing mimicry as a respected art form. Though he passed away in 2001, his legacy continues to inspire generations, and his contributions remain a cornerstone of Kerala’s cultural landscape.
